The Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) received top accolades among several other international awards for their exhibition stand at the just ended on-going Botswana Tertiary Education Conference and Fair 2015 (BTEF).

The judging committee for the BTEF fair presented BAC with the ‘Best Public University’ and ‘Best Overall Stand’ awards for their exhibition.

The theme for the stand was an interactive showcase of BAC’s course offering covering Computing and Information Technology, Accounting and Finance as well as Business and Leisure, a ‘portal’ through the BAC experience and offering. “For BAC to be judged the Best Public University and Best Overall Stand at BTEF 2015 was very exciting for us. We successfully illustrated BAC’s innovative and very hands on approach for education through the stand. We aimed to immerse young minds into the career choices we teach while explaining exactly what BAC offers. It makes me proud that the efforts of our innovative teaching methods can be recognised in this way, it represents the differentiation factors for BAC and the unique career choices for the prospective choices,” said a jubilant Michael Lesolle, BAC’s Executive Director.

At BTE 2015, BAC was able to share its industry leading education offering with young people considering where to study next year. BAC’s programmes follow the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) educational approaches, with emphasis placed more   on application rather than theoretical. TVET gives students theoretical instruction coupled with a large element of hands on real world experience. BAC course offering is enhanced by strategic partnerships with leading international universities in the UK; namely Sheffield Hallam University, University of Sunderland and the University of Derby. Botswana has benefited from market ready BAC graduates in Business Management, Accountancy and Finance, Entrepreneurship, International Tourism Management, Salon Management, IT, Computing, Strategic Management, Project Management, Professional Accountancy and Enterprise Risk Management.

Mpho Mokgosi, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications for BAC said, “The efforts of the exhibition team, made up of BAC lecturers and students, have paid off handsomely. It was an example of the collaborative and hands on learning experience that makes BAC an innovative college. We were glad to be recognised at Best Public University, and extremely proud that our exhibition stand won the award for Best Overall Stand, it reinforces our local and global foot print.”

BAC continues to make a significant contribution to the tertiary education sector through its sponsorship of BTEF in 2015. Through its collaborative partners, Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) from the UK, BAC was able to bring international insights to the BTEF Conference.

A first for the BTE Conference was a presentation conducted live via Skype from the UK by Professor Isobel Doole, SHU’s Deputy Dean and Professor of International Marketing. Lecturer in International Business, Dr. Fariba Darabi, delivered a keynote address; and Dr Alisha Ali, Senior Lecturer in Service Sector Management, presented on the role of TVET in developing SMMEs.

The BTE Conference ran from the 23rd to 25th March, while the BTE Fair kicked off on the 25th March and ends on the 28th March at Ditshupo Hall at Fairgrounds in Gaborone. This is the 2nd year that BAC has been recognised as the Best Public University at the BTE annual fair.
