Air Botswana has announced a strategic partnership with Airborne Lifeline Foundation, a nonprofit organisation committed to delivering essential medical services to remote communities across the country.

According to officials, the initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility in underserved areas, reinforcing the state-owned national airline’s dedication to corporate social responsibility. Under the partnership, Air Botswana will sponsor six tickets per month for a year, allowing medical professionals and essential personnel to travel between Gaborone, Maun, and Kasane. The sponsorship, valued at P367, 152, will alleviate logistical challenges and ensure that critical medical services reach those in need. Speaking on the collaboration signing vent, Air Botswana CEO, Lulu Rasebotsa, emphasised the airline’s commitment to community well-being. “Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, and we recognise the vital work that Airborne Lifeline Foundation is doing in reaching underserved communities,” she said.

“By providing air travel support, we aim to ease logistical challenges and ensure that life-saving medical services reach those who need them most,” she said. Airborne Lifeline Foundation has been instrumental in delivering healthcare services to communities with limited access to hospitals and clinics. This partnership will enhance the foundation’s ability to provide timely medical interventions, from routine check-ups to emergency healthcare services. Beyond aviation, Air Botswana continues to play a role in Botswana’s socio-economic development. By supporting initiatives like this, the airline is not only strengthening healthcare accessibility but also contributing to the well-being of Batswana, ensuring that even remote communities receive the medical attention they deserve. In addition to its healthcare initiative, Air Botswana has also taken significant steps in the transport and trade sectors. In 2023, the airline signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Botswana Chamber of Mines to facilitate air cargo transportation of raw materials, as well as the import and export of manufactured goods.

This partnership is set to boost the mining, transport, and trade industries by improving logistics efficiency. Recognising the growing importance of air cargo, Air Botswana has identified cargo transportation as one of its flagship projects to drive business recovery and long-term sustainability. The airline acknowledges the global shift towards air freight and its vital role in trade facilitation. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global air cargo traffic is projected to grow at an annual rate of four percent, with air freight expected to rise by 4.3 percent per year over the next two decades. Air Botswana is strategically positioning itself to leverage these opportunities and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
