Ailing health ministry gets P10.5bn shot in the arm

With the Ministry of Health rocked by shortage of medicines amongst other concerns, Parliament has approved a P10.5 billion budget under the National Development Plan 12 (NDP12) for service delivery. Minister of Health, Dr Stephen Modise, recently revealed plans to improve healthcare services in the country through the establishment of emergency medical services centres.

The centres are to be set up at Dibete and Nata, augmented by the completion of Moshupa Primary Hospital and Shakawe Primary Hospital staff housing projects.

Presenting the Ministry's budget before legislators, he said a total of P63 million has been budgeted for the procurement of ambulances and non-ambulances to deliver healthcare services to the community.
