A first! Open-heart surgery at Princess Marina Hospital!

By 6pm today, Princess Marina Hospital will be celebrating a first. A very big first. Early yesterday the hospital conducted its first ever open-heart surgery - and it was a success.

While Acting Hospital Superintendent Dr Vincent Molelekwa refused to either deny or confirm the good news, choosing to call the press today at 6pm, sources within the hospital confirmed that the operation was indeed a success. A team of experts led by a leading Mauritian open-heart surgeon conducted the four-hour operation.

Open-heart surgery is cited as the most evasive of heart procedures.  To conduct the operation, doctors cut open the patient's chest and surgery is performed on the heart muscle, valves, arteries, or other heart structures.
