Vee and Shumba Ratshega among big earners in ringtone royalties

Some local artists have received music royalties retrieved from ringtones across all mobile networks namely Mascom, beMOBILE and Orange. ViB Mobile, a subsidiary of Virgin Brew Media, recently awarded the money, which totalled an amount of P193, 269.28.

Among the big earners on the day was local music giant Vee, who topped the list with P63, 027.85; followed by DJ Oats who received P18, 620.09. Ke Thala Dinte singer Shumba Ratshega walked away with P18, 269.20, while Lizibo took home P10, 705.80.

The managing director of ViB mobile, Leroy Monaheng, said the money was generated mainly through downloads. He also said every party involved receives a share, although artists get the biggest share.
