F/town to host first Miss Tertiary pageant

FRANCISTOWN: Over the years Botswana has witnessed various pageants in different tertiary institutions, the likes of Miss Limkokwing and Miss University of Botswana among others. Never before has a Miss Tertiary been held pitting a bevy of beauties from various schools in a city against each other. Beautiful women from tertiary institutions in Francistown are set to strut it out in what is Miss Tertiary Institutions.

Neo Thuma, a third-year student at ABM will be the host of the first Miss Tertiary, Francistown on May 2.  The event will be held at Phase Four Hall in Block One and will involve tertiary students in Francistown.

The tertiary schools include ABM University College, Botswana Accountancy College, Botho University, and Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) among others.

Speaking to Showbiz, Thuma said that this is the first tertiary pageant to be held.  She said that the drive behind the event is to bring Francistown students together for networking purposes.  This endeavour will help students academically or in any other aspect of life during their stay in the respective tertiary institutions.

“As a student from ABM, I noticed that students need to meet under one roof as a way of coming together.  Help build academic relationships and beyond.  Again I saw it fit to come up with this event to expose natural talent among the students,” she said.

She further said that the winner and her two runners up will be involved in several campaigns and work hand-in-hand with tertiary students.  To try and eliminate some of the bad habits they are grappling with such as alcohol, drug abuse, and low drive in education among others. She added that through the campaigns they will also educate the community on diseases they are very ignorant in including among others cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure. “Their task (winner and runners up) will be to come up with ways in which students could tackle such diseases,” she added.

She said the event would also give Francistown the vibe that seems to be lacking in the city. She is, however, still in the process of getting sponsors for the event and urged business entities to help sponsor the event.  So far, she said, there is positive response from some of the business people including tertiary schools.

She said that so far she is working with The Fill Digital Studio and Jero Multimedia to organise the event.

“This will also open doors for me as a student who studies business management.  It will expose me beyond the classroom base and kickstart my event organising business.  I am also hoping to organise more events in Francistown,” she said.
