Top South African rider, Brian Capper, treated Gaborone motorbike enthusiasts to spectacular stunts on Saturday when he performed in the city for the first time.

He flew over challenging heights, spinning his motorbike and rode on one wheel only. The star performed on a day that saw 130 local and South African motorbike riders participating in a charity event to raise funds for the less privileged members of society in conjunction with the Gaborone Sun. The event was meant to create awareness about motorbike racing as a sport and a form of transport especially in a city that can be heavily congested with traffic especially during rush hours. Before he performed, the South African, who is rated among the top 10 in the world got members of the crowd who included President Ian Khama to volunteer to do a simple stunt - standing on both legs on a stationery motorbike for five seconds. It appeared simple, but many failed to achieve the feat, until Khama volunteered and got it right. He balanced on the bike for six seconds to much applause from the crowd. The riders took part in a parade led by the President and his brothers Tshekedi and Anthony at around 9am. The riders went to Phakalane, Block 6, 7, 8, Game City and city centre in a one-hour ride that raised over P120, 000 by mid-day on Saturday. Khama showed up in a stylish gold wing cruiser motorbike that riders describe as the Rolls Royce of the motorbikes. Another unidentified rider was spotted riding the same brand as the President. The event was organised by seven private riders Jonathan Carline, Grame Hill, Mr and Mrs Krynauw, Schalk Smit, Berns de Klerk, Andre Du Plessis and the Gaborone Sun. On the day of the ride, 115 orphans were invited to the event and treated to a good time. Every rider, including the President and his brothers brought a toy to be donated to needy children as a Christmas gift. Carline told Sport Monitor that as the organisers of the event, they were honoured to have the President grace the event as his presence attracted a lot of riders and enthusiasts, resulting in considerable amount of cash they raised on the day.
