Towards a parallel diamond sales channel

As the diamond industry pulls out of the global recession, so much has been happening in the industry both in Botswana and abroad as private companies and governments try to knock the market back into shape. This week in Gaborone, Mmegi Staff Writer BRIAN BENZA caught up with Chaim Even-Zohar, one of the industry's most renowned analysts who has been in the field for over 35 years and owns a diamond research and consultancy company in Israel

Mmegi: What are your views on the sales and marketing contract currently being negotiated between Botswana and De Beers?

Even-Zohar: I think the talks are actually starting a bit late. It was a matter of priority as the shareholders were pre-occupied with other things such as the loans and the rights issue.
