President Ian Khama has set up a joint advisory committee of Ntlo ya Dikgosi and the Botswana Council of Churches (BCC) on social values after realising that "our value systems were increasingly being compromised to the detriment of the strong social fibre upon which we founded our nation."

A statement from the National Assembly says that the main mandate of this committee is to consult with the public and determine causes of social ills that afflict communities such as domestic violence, rape, child abuse, youth indiscipline and others and recommend to government possible strategies for addressing such ills.

"The committee is also expected to determine the role that can be played by traditional leaders and other community leaders in re-instilling the social values.  Membership of the Social Committee comprises of four Ntlo ya Dikgosi members and two representatives from Botswana Council of Churches," the statement says.
