In response to the recent false and misleading statements circulating on social media regarding three students of the Botswana International University of Science (BIUST), we wish to inform the public that the students were identified as contact persons of a truck driver who has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive.

The University wishes to clarify that the affected students were identified from the register of all those who visited the restaurant on the day the said truck driver had been there. Thus, the students have no personal knowledge of the identity of this truck driver.

It should be pointed out that the affected students are merely contact persons, and have not been confirmed as COVID-19 positive.
