The Under-19 women’s softball team has flown to California for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Under-19 women’s softball World Cup 2019, which begins Sunday.
Botswana is ranked number 43 after dropping 10 places since 2017.
The country last took part in the competition in 2013 in Brampton, Canada and finishing in position 13. Botswana is in Group A with the host, USA, which is ranked number one in the world. Botswana takes on the host in the opening match.
Other countries in the group are Mexico ranked fifth, and Czech Republic, who are number 15.
Botswana qualified for the championship after finishing in position two during the Africa qualifiers held in Pretoria early this year.
