Mpene clinches Africa chess championship

Ten year-old Thuto Mpene has won a gold medal at the Africa Schools Chess Championships held in Uganda this week.

Mpene won the tournament with 8.5 points out of nine and did not register a loss for the entire tournament.

The player, a pupil at Letlhakeng Primary School secured himself a slot at the World Schools Championships in May 2020.
