The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has taken an initiative to provide training to health practitioners on the prevention of the death of children at birth.

The practitioners have been on a weeklong training, which started on June 16 at the Church’s Gaborone branch under the tutelage of medical practitioners from the church in the United States of America.

The US practitioners are part of the Church’s LDS charity drive.  The training is a partnership between the Church and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, which has been ongoing for close to seven years.  Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training programme on Friday, deputy permanent secretary of Health Services Management Dr Morrison Sinvula said the training would equip participants with necessary skills to save the lives that would otherwise be lost.
