The famous Sekgarapeng festival is re-surfacing with the organisers promising an even bigger show this festive season.

The annual event that takes place in Lesenepole on December 24, has proven a success since its inception back in 2012. According to the event coordinator, Gofa Motsamai, the idea came about after he realised that people from his village lacked entertainment during the festive season.  He said once the bars in the area closed, people travelled to nearby villages seeking entertainment that was also costly and dangerous, more especially for those who did not have transport.  Motsamai said Lesenepole was a small village without nightclubs hence Sekgarapeng festival rescues the villagers from boredom, as it hosts some of the famous local artists.

“This event will unite the villagers and give them an opportunity to enjoy endless entertainment from some of our most loved local artists in the likes of Vee Mampeezy, Tumzah, Jeff Matheatau, Exodus, Mlesho, DJ Bino and others. He said some of the festival proceeds are donated to the Village Development Committee (VDC).  Tickets are sold at Liquorama at BBS mall and in Palapye.  “Pre-tickets are sold at P100. We will be selling them P150 at the gates because we have realised that people like buying them at the last minute and therefore inconveniencing us as we fail to cater for a large crowd because we cannot estimate the numbers of people that partake at the event,” he said. He said the event this year will start at 2pm until late. Cooler boxes will be free before 6pm and will cost P60 afterwards.
