Following its expulsion from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC, the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) is hit with the first of high profile resignations. Having been in a dilemma as to where to go to save his political career, Phenyo Segokgo is officially leaving the BMD to join the Botswana National Front (BNF).

The council chairperson for South East District Council (SEDC) has finally made a decision to join the party that he had in the past expressed intention to join but never did. Segokgo says he will as of today submit his application for BNF membership through the Tlokweng branch committee. 

A few months back, he announced his intention to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2019 general elections.  Even though Segokgo claims that he has been a UDC councillor, he could not contest under the umbrella, since if he did not fall under any of the coalition members.
