Lack of finance has been cited a reason the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) is failing to cure or provide budget to cure rare diseases.
The MoHW accounting officer Ruth Maphorisa said the issue was related to health financing. She said lack of finances forced them to run out of prioritising even in terms of cancer where medicines were expensive. She pointed out that even those in medical aid also run out of finances.
She was responding to MP Mephato Reatile during Public Accounts Committee submission who informed her
"What are we saying about the issue of rare diseases? Batswana are complaining that you do not cover or help them regarding issues of rare diseases. How do you intend to help them in future," he had asked.
