The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) party president Dumelang Saleshando has cautions his party attorneys not to entertain representing the former president Ian Khama if he were to seek their legal representation.

He said the attorneys should know there is need to balance their professional duties with the interests of the organisation they freely and voluntarily choose to associate with.

“Retired President Khama presided over a corrupt government that had minimal regard for civil liberties. Representing a person who embodies all that which we oppose will rightfully earn us the label of hypocrites. Taking instructions from those who championed looting of public resources diminishes our moral authority to make any promise

for a better Botswana,” Saleshando says.

He asked his members who may be approached by Khama or prominent Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leadership, past or present to be guided by their conscience and stand firm in promotion of the values they collectively promote.

The BCP president says their priority is to ensure that all those who are alleged to have aided the spiralling corruption that has come to define the country should have their day in court.
