Ostriches, Nare part ways

PALAPYE: Orapa United this week parted ways with assistant coach, Daniel 'Chico' Nare just five months into a two-year contract.

Chico joined the Ostriches last October following a fruitful stint at Miscellaneous. He is the second high profile coach after Madinda Ndlovu to exit the Orapa club.

His relationship with the Ostriches turned sour following a heavy 4-2 defeat to Township Rollers in the Mascom Top 8 final early this month.

Accusing fingers pointed at Nare for the loss, with reports surfacing that he did not accord respect to head coach, Bongani Mafu.

The Zimbabwean found Nare and the team in the quarter-final stage of the Top 8 competition. Reports are that the two did not agree on the line up for the final. After the final, the club spoke of Nare’s failure to adhere to the team’s camping rules. He was summoned for a hearing before a disciplinary board on Tuesday facing three counts of misconduct.

spokesperson, Kabo William said Nare was charged with coming late to games, camp disruption and giving players wrong information.

Nare made his submissions on Monday following last week’s hearing. “He was found guilty on all counts and on Monday the club and Nare amicably agreed to part ways,” William revealed.

William said Nare’s departure is a setback for Orapa United by virtue of his astuteness. “He is a good coach, he is technically and psychologically gifted, which is what we saw in him when we roped him in. We still believe he will grow to become one of the best local coaches and we wish him all the best.”

Nare was not available for comment at the time of going to press, as he was driving at the time Mmegi Sport sought his response.
