Notorious suspect Mogakolodi Adolphious Legae, who has been on the list of police most wanted, was on Saturday morning killed following a shootout with the police in Block 6 in Gaborone.
This comes just days after he, and three other South African criminals escaped from Nietverdiend Police Station cells in South Africa where he was awaiting extradition to Botswana.
Legae was wanted by the police for a string of crimes including robbery, rape and attempted murder that he and his accomplices are alleged to have committed between 2016 and 2017.
He skipped bail and escaped to South Africa where he was arrested and remanded in police custody pending extradition to Botswana.
Police spokesperson, assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube confirmed the shootout and the death of the 24-year-old Legae to The Monitor on Saturday, saying he exchanged fire with the police.

“We have also arrested a 33-year-old woman of Block 6 in Gaborone for questioning. The woman is likely to be charged with harbouring a wanted suspect,” said.
Legae made headlines earlier this year after a spate of violent armed robberies in and around Gaborone, and the revelation that he had five other cases of rape and robbery pending.
A Kanye resident, Legae is suspected of robbing Choppies Super Store in Block 8 back in June at gunpoint, making off with P112,000 and R13,000 in cash.
Legae was also a suspect in an armed robbery case at Saverite supermarket in Moshupa where they allegedly walked away with an undisclosed amount of money.
