Forty local acts have been selected to open up for Nigerian pop artist, Wiz Kid, during the Diamond City Concert scheduled for December 2 at the National Stadium.
The local acts were selected from a variety of musical genres around the country and most of them are urban music oriented artists. The local opening acts will be joined by international opening acts such as Freshly Ground, Ringo, Burna Boy and Sjava.
“We selected most of these artists looking at the demand and their relevance towards the audience. We also had digital polls asking people online whom they would want to see perform during this concert. We wanted to add more but the numbers we have at the moment are enough,” Bruce Nkgakile who is spearheading the Diamond City Concert told Showbiz in an interview.
He stated that by hosting artists from different backgrounds they want to cater and bring a classic event, which is not centred, on just one musical genre.
Nkgakile stated that tickets will not be sold at the gate during the day of the event and he encouraged revelers to purchase them at different points mentioned on event posters and social media accounts.
“So far tickets are selling well. Chances are high that they might be sold out in the next week
With the safety of revelers at events being a priority after the unfortunate past incident at the Gaborone International Music and Culture Week (GIMC), he stated that there will be a total of 400 security personnel that will be operating at the National Stadium and surrounding areas such as the GSS grounds.
“There will be a shuttle service for revelers that are driving from the parking bay to the venue,” he highlighted. Meanwhile the Nigerian acts such as Burna Boy and Wiz Kid will be in the capital city two days before the event where they will facilitate workshops with local musicians.
Some of the local acts that will perform at the event are Ban T, Scar, Chrispin the Drummer, Team Distant, Mr Yummy, BK Proctor, DJ Cody, Ammo Ski Mask, DJ Phouboy, Mlesho, Groovy Souls, NT Base, DJ Ricky Lamar, Darkboy Masey, DJ De Javu, DJ Khenzo, DJ Anthem, Strictly Housebound, DJ Ndox, WNDR, DJ Cupid, DJ Kenn, Luzkat and Drak.
