The country has pronounced that where a paid public holiday falls on a rest day, as will be the case with the 51st Independence celebration on Saturday 30, the day following the rest day shall be a paid public holiday.

The Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Examinations (BGCSE) start next week, with learners pursuing Statistics forced to sit for the exam because by virtue of being an international examination, written by other countries, the Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has no authority to reschedule it.

“This is an international paper, so there is no way it can be moved because candidates in other countries would have written the exam already, so it is only proper for local candidates to sit for the paper on that date,” corporate communications manager, Fingile Makgalemele explained.
