Ditiro and Tsankane at Jazz Brew Cafe in Ramotswa PIC: THALEFANG CHARLES

Performing for the first time as a free man, Ditiro ‘DT’ Leero was all smiles on Sunday, at the Ramotswa Jazz Brew as Mafitlhakgosi Traditional Group curtainraised for the pint-sized musician.

When he finally jumped on stage at 9pm he was accompanied by his former band member, Daniel Tsankane of Matsieng Traditional Group. Although the main intention was to introduce new singles from his newly recorded album titled Magana Mokgwa that was not to be on the night. The crowd who had flocked the area did not want to listen to the new DT. They wanted a ‘blast from the past’.DT who has just spent four years behind bars for a six year jail term, tried to sample out the new singles, but the crowd simply cold-shouldered him.  But his hit song Lebo, hit the right cords as  die-hard fanatics, who had filled the venue, sprang to on their feet dancing.

Apparently, they had been pining for the song, callng and screaming for its rendition. But DT seemed to go by the mantra: “Save best for last” DT was also not shy to exhibit his trademark phathisi dance skills, receiving loud cheers from the crowd.
