Gaborone United (GU) has followed in the footsteps of Mochudi Centre Chiefs by withdrawing from this year’s CAF competition. GU were scheduled to play Tanzania’s Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi in the opening stages of the CAF Confederations Cup after winning the Mascom Top 8 title last season.

Chiefs on the other hand were to play against Ferroviário Maputo of Mozambique. Both clubs have cited financial problems as the reason for withdrawing from the competition. Chiefs were the first to announce their decision to pull out last month and the hope remained on GU as Botswana’s representatives in the continental club competition.

However, they took a decision to withdraw yesterday.
