FRANCISTOWN: Emmanuel Mogomela, popularly known as ‘Professor’ or the ‘King of Kings’, has passed on at the age of 94. Mogomela, a popular, colourful and iconic figure suffered a stroke last year.

On Monday morning, his daughter, Litty, confirmed Mogomela’s death, saying he had passed away on Saturday after a hypertensive attack.

The lifelong cyclist and self-styled historian was instantly recognisable for his branded bicycle on which he had inscribed labels such as ‘King of Kings’ or ‘Kgosi ya Dikgosi’. At times he would go around with the national flag hanging on his bicycle declaring his pride in Botswana. Mogomela also always carried a briefcase full of books, manuscripts and pictures of former presidents, which he used to educate people.
