Mature jazz sounds lure youngsters

From days gone by, jazz has always been considered music for people advanced in age, tickling the fancy of only a few youngsters. This trend, however, is gradually changing as more and more youthful music lovers are allured by the mature sounds of Afro-jazz in particular.

It is now a common sight to see young jazz enthusiasts flocking to jazz joints such as Millennium Restaurant and the Pavilion. Events such as Jazz X Change are no longer for the oldies. Ironically, even those hippy musicians seem to be ditching their urban sounds to venture into the laid back jazz tunes.

In the last two months, Botswana has seen world-renowned jazz heavyweights Hugh Masekela, Don Laka, Jimmy Dludlu and Salif Keita gracing our shores to much fanfare.
