The chairman of the culture and publicity sub-committee of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Shaw Kgathi has said that they plan to create a good relationship with the media.
Speaking at a dinner in Gaborone on Tuesday, Kgathi acknowledged the media as a critical player in disseminating information and informing people. He promised that his sub-committee will share party policy information with the media. He appealed to journalists to avoid publishing reports based on speculation.
As the general elections approach, Kgathi said their focus in the next two months will be on ensuring that the party wins 70 percent of the popular vote. Kgathi said that their mandate is to assist the central committee to prove that there is still no alternative to the BDP.
BDP secretary general, Gomolemo Motswaedi introduced the culture and publicity sub-committee to the media. He said the sub-committee, which used to advise the central committee has been given the mandate to respond to newspaper articles where necessary and give information to the media. He explained that the sub-committee will consult with the central committee on what information to give out.
