Exports outweigh imports

The country recorded a trade surplus ofP1.5 billion in the month of July as exports continue to outweigh imports.

According to figures released by Statistics Botswana, total imports were valued at P4.6 billion, showing an increase of 26.0 percent (P950.9 million) from the revised June 2014 value of P3,657.7 million. When annualising total import figures, July 2014 imports value increased by 7.2 percent (P308.0 million) from the July 2013 value of P4.3 billion. On the other hand, total exports were valued at P6.1 billion, a decrease of 8.5 percent (P565.7 million) from the June 2014 revised value of P6.7 billion. Comparison of July 2014 total exports value to that of July 2013 (P6.90 billion) shows a decrease of 11.7 percent (P806.8 million).
