Right to vote: There will be no softball action this weekend due to the national elections

Several sporting activities have been cancelled this weekend because of the national elections taking place on Friday. After the Botswana Premier League (BPL) decided not to schedule any games this weekend to allow players and officials to exercise their right to vote, other sports bodies have followed suit. First Division League games have been cancelled as well as the Botswana Fibre Network (BOFINet) softball league.

Botswana Softball Association acting public relations officer, Renny Molete told Mmegi Sport that they decided not to continue with the league over the weekend as they want to give players a chance to cast their votes.  Meanwhile, Molete said there was no league action last weekend because tertiary education institutions were staging their games. He noted that most of the players in the league are students.

Stakes are high this season with every team eyeing the lucrative P100,000 first prize from BOFINet who have sponsored the league with P1 million out of which, P649,000 go towards prize money.
