Athletics: Ethiopia running away with gold in long distances

Ethiopia has continued to dominant long distance races after Amanuel Gemechu Biratu and Berhanu Beza Zegeye won gold medals in the boys 10 km and girls 5km walk races respectively at the National Stadium on Friday.

Biratu started his race on a slow pace with South Africa’s Pierre Vermaak leading the pack in the first five laps. However Biratu overpowered Vermaak after 13 laps to lead the pack of athletes.

Biratu managed to maintain his position until the 25th lap finishing the race in 45:30 seconds.
