Official reveals F/town water deficit

FRANCISTOWN: The Francistown water supply master plan is currently under strain and must be reviewed urgently to meet the current demand, a Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) official has said. WUC distribution, customer care and services director, Abednico Khumalo told a seminar this week that increasing demand for water in greater Francistown continues to put strain on supply, leading to a daily deficit. He said WUC currently has a tough time because Francistown needs an average of 28 megalitres daily, while the corporation can only supply 24 megalitres.

He told a WUC seminar that there has been an increase in demand in greater Francistown, areas covering Masunga, Mathangwane, Tatisiding, Matsiloje, Tonota, Matshelagabedi. He said the situation is made worse by the fact that Shashe Dam did not spill this year. "This means that we are likely to be faced with big challenges of water supply," Khumalo told the WUC breakfast seminar that targeted stakeholders. He indicated that challenges such as drought, increased water demand and insufficient infrastructure have adversely affected supply capacity.  He stressed because of the supply deficit in Francistown, WUC cannot afford power outages in its plant.

As a result of the problems they were faced with in production, WUC has enhanced its public education so that people can appreciate the situation.

Each of the 10 beautiful young women had supporters...
