President Ian Khama will attend the next Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Summit in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo next week. The 29th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government will be held from September 7 to 8.
"Yes, His Excellency is expected to attend the summit and will probably be accompanied by the Acting Minister of Finance and Development Planning Kenneth Matambo, the Minister of Trade and Industry Neo Moroka and maybe the Miniser of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Phandu Skelemani and with senior government officials," the Coordinator of the Government Communications and Information Service, Dr Jeff Ramsay, confirmed yesterday.
Among others, the summit is expected to discuss the political situation in the SADC region, especially in Madagascar
The Summit will also discuss the best ways to tackle economic difficulties caused by the global financial crisis, the launch of a wider Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and the UniVisa that will be used during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
