What is in the briefcase for us, Minister Gaolathe?

On Monday, the nation's eyes will turn to Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Baledzi Gaolathe, when he enters the National Assembly holding his briefcase to deliver the 2008/09 budget at a time when expectations are high among Batswana for Government to solve problems bedevilling the country; high among them, the power outages.

Having presented a P25.91 billion budget, Gaolathe faces the nation at a time when there are pressing issues that need to be urgently tackled requiring the government to dig deeper into the national coffers. 

Developments on the global economy have also exerted some pressure on the local economy particularly on the inflation front. Rising international oil and food prices continue to put a squeeze on the local economy.
