Btv Auditorium to host Life Concert

This is perhaps one of the busiest times in the performing arts calendar, particularly in terms of music shows.

This Saturday, music lovers will be treated to yet another concert simply termed, The Music To Life Concert 2008. Organised by Franklyn International, the concert is billed for the Botswana Television (Btv) Auditorium, and promises to be a thriller for music enthusiasts. In an interview with Showbiz, Franklyn Moyo of Franklyn International explained that the Music to Life Concert is an annual inspirational event, which not only showcases some of the talented local musicians, but also features songs that encourage positive behavioural change in society.

'The concert was born after it was realised that most of the music being featured and promoted through our media had little or nothing to do with positive behavioural change, which the country is trying to achieve. Most songs promote substance abuse, promiscuity and lots of other socio-economic ills we face as a nation,' Moyo said.

He explained that it is his belief that society does need special role models because music artists have the capacity to impact the nation positively.

'No one can deny the power of music. We all have seen how it can build or destroy lives and in turn the whole nation. Those in power in other countries actually have their reigns on the music industry as well because they know and understand what it can achieve.

He added that artists have a great responsibility of steering the nation in the right direction and towards achieving national Vision 2016 objectives.

The line-up of musicians to perform at the festival include, Unified, G. Lebele, Franklyn, Music To Live (MTL) Voices, a group comprising members from Sonshine, Ntirelang Berman, Eugine Jackson, Tripple Question Mark, Maipelo, Nancy, Andrew Kiptoo, Kgomotso and many other talented and vibrant young vocalists.

The inspirational concert, one of Franklyn International's many events intended to raise funds for the establishment of a Community Youth Performing Arts Centre, will specialise in professional artist development, focusing on at-risk and under privileged youth.

The centre will include a performance auditorium, rehearsal room, a recording studio and the Hall of Fame.
