Police received the report on Sunday after the victim disclosed what had happened to her neighbours. Confirming that they are investigating the matter, Palapye Police Station assistant commander, Assistant Superintendent Goletwa Kethamile, said they have launched a probe to locate the suspect, who is still at large.

He disclosed that on the night of the incident, the little girl had followed her mother to a Chibuku depot, but her mother wanted to send her back home.

'Through our preliminary investigations, we have established that whilst at the depot, the mother's male cousin volunteered to accompany the little girl home. Whilst on the way, he allegedly dragged her to the nearby bush area, raped her, and fled. In the morning, the little girl told her neighbours what happened. They looked for her mother, who had not slept at home and subsequently reported the matter to the police,' he said.

Kethamile said investigations are ongoing to locate the suspect, who is still at large.
