The Rock, as the player was affectionately known, was killed in a stabbing incident in Otse on Saturday last week. Chiefs executive director, Edwin Mothulatshipi said a temporary committee has been set up to give their jersey number 15 player a dignified send-off.

“We’ve selected a committee led by Karabo Motlharwa for the funeral to give him a dignified send-off,” Mothulatshipi said. He noted that the club has received massive support from Winchester Properties and Dirang Express who are helping with the memorial service logistics.

A memorial service was due to be held at the River Plate ground yesterday (Thursday). “We have received the support of the memorial service from the Township Rollers Jagdish Shah’s company, Winchester Properties, a company where Rapulane worked.

Dirang Express has provided sound, food, and transport,” Mothulatshipi said. “On Sunday, the directors took a trip to visit the family and Dirang Express provided breakfast and transport for our 30 to 35 players on Wednesday to visit the family in Otse,” he added.

Mothulatshipi praised Rupalane’s leadership skills and recalls that he had issued a rallied call to his teammates to stay on at Chiefs and help the side to gain promotion to the Botswana Premier League. He said due to the high number of mourners expected, they will be mindful of COVID-19 protocols. In remembrance of The Rock, the team will frame his replica Chiefs jersey signed by his teammates.
