The win maintained Chiefs' second spot with 62 points, three less than log leaders Gaborone United (GU) who beat BDF XI 2-1 at the Galaxy Stadium in Jwaneng on Saturday. After the weekend's games, there are signs that the title race is likely to go to the wire. Chiefs have four games remaining against BDF XI, Extension Gunners, Naughty Boys and GU.

On Saturday, Magosi started strongly with Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping opening his account in the fourth minute with a free header. Five minutes before halftime, Othusitse 'Jabu' Pilane made it 2-0 after he capitalised on poor goalkeeping by Kabelo Osupile. After the break, Chiefs continued their search for goals and Pilane completed his brace in the 47th minute. Credit has to go to Mpho 'Jomo' Mabogo who made a run on the right and with the goal at his mercy, he laid the ball to Pilane to score. Not to be outdone, Moatlhaping netted his second in the 73rd minute after Michael Mogaladi bulldozed his way into the box. Moatlhaping who is contesting for the Green Boot Award now has 23 goals, three less than Master Masitara of Nico United. Masitara scored a brace when his side beat Township Rollers 2-1 in Selebi-Phikwe on Saturday.

Santos scored their goals through the Ngele brothers Godfrey and Mogakolodi in the 50th and 56th minutes respectively. Mogakolodi's goal will remain one of his best for the season as he beat Chiefs' goalkeeper Noah Maposa from outside the box. Despite missing experienced stars like Pius Kolagano, Shoes Motlhabane, Donald Lopang, Patrick Mathaba and Vincent Phiri, Santos' youngsters showed character and skill but were let down by inexperience.

After the game, Chiefs' coach Beston Chambeshi said that he was happy that they collected maximum points though he was not impressed by the overall performance of his side. "We didn't perform to expectations and we conceded two goals which is dangerous when you're contesting for the league title. We'll have to ensure that we don't drop points in the remaining games if we want to retain the league title," he said. Once again, Chiefs' midfielder, Dirang Moloi produced a virtuoso performance. The controversial ball wizard seems to be enjoying his game after crossing over from Notwane where he had a troubled time.

Santos' coach, Clever Hunda said that he is happy in defeat because they faced the best club in the country. He said that some of his youngsters lack experience and can only learn by playing good sides like Chiefs. Hunda pointed out that they did not perform well in the first half but he is happy his charges responded well after the pep-talk. He said he is not missing the services of his suspended senior players. "Their fate lies with the disciplinary hearing and I can't say I'm missing them," he said.
