The BFA responded by suspending its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tosh Kgotlele and instituted investigations into the matter.
A source within the soccer mother body confirmed that police are investigating the matter and there "is every reason to suspect match fixing".
"In all likelihood, there seems to be a case of match fixing. Investigations are at an advanced stage and should be concluded soon," said the source. It was however, unclear which police station is handling the case, although the source said it is likely Central Police Station.
It is suspected that at least US$70, 000 exchanged hands although it remains hazy as to who the role players are. Unnamed Asian betting syndicates have been mentioned as possible 'culprits'. There has been no immediate response from the Chinese Football Association (CFA) or its government on the match fixing allegations.
Efforts to get a comment from BFA president David Fani and Central Police Station over the weekend drew a blank. Fani has promised to make the findings public.
