The Congolese musician, who came to Botswana in December 2002 has played for almost all notable artists; from Jeff Matheatau to Franco and Vee. Recently when Showbiz called him to ask how many artists he has recorded, he said:

"I have played for all the big names except one, but as we speak we are recording for his new album," he said, and upon further enquiry, a voice belonging to Banjo Mosele, Botswana's musical export to Europe, confirmed that they were in the studio working on Katuta's musical piece.

Katuta's mastery of the guitar is well-known and greatly influenced his coming to Botswana. In December 2002, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) born muso arrived for the first time in Botswana, after being invited to play in Jeff Matheatau's band, a Kwasa-Kwasa group.

The artist went on to play not only for Kwasa-Kwasa artists, but also for House and other genre performers. It is, therefore, not surprising that his eight-track album is a powerfully loaded piece of musical work.

Tracks like No Mathata; and Okavango guitar prove that this is an extraordinary artist. He is the doyen of the Kwasa-Kwasa genre. The songs are danceable with a melody that is so entrancing that it would move anyone to their feet to the dance floor. Take the second track Billy, in which he featured Emperor Charlie, for example. The song, a laid back piece, achieves a lot in appealing to the listener. Though it is not sung in Setswana, the message of love that is carried within the song comes out clearly.

Like one said, music is a universal language, this is the case in Katuta's message. The muso, who speaks many languages, including French and Lingala, which he marries easily with his beautiful guitar sounds to bring out a brilliant musical offering.

Katuta went out of his way to make his first solo album a great success by engaging some of Botswana's notable musicians. He has roped in another Kwasa-Kwasa import Biza Mpulu, jazz sensation Malombo Mmereki and songbird Suggie Fisher. Katuta has said that he pulled out all the stops to ensure that his debut was a success.

"I have been in the industry for a long time working with various artists from whom I learnt that the best thing to do is simple: produce a high quality product and you would have people following your music like a religion. I am sure I am on the right track to achieving that," he said.

The album is marketed and distributed by Dargie Advertising, while the recording was done at Octave and Diamond studios.
