Manyora is the lingo for the street- smarts, and fun-loving people in the townships. It is that section of the society often characterised by the passion for rhumba, disco, and kwaito culture, among others.

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Gaborone West South candidate, Botsalo Ntuane will today (Wednesday) be zeroing in on this population by giving them their number one entertainment in disco and rumba music.

Their number one idol Dan Tshanda of Splash, will be coming to town to perform at Bophirima grounds, from 3pm till 8pm. He will be accompanied by a popular band in his stable, Matshikos. According to Ntuane, the Splash leader was chosen for the occasion specifically to swing the minds of the Pantsula king's followers so that they cast votes for Ntuane, come October 16.

Splash always performs to huge crowds and Ntuane hopes that a large section of G-West South community will be in attendance, both to have fun, and also to listen to a message of support the Splash man will be delivering to the fans on the day.

Ntuane says Tshanda will not just be singing familiar tunes for thousands of his fans, but will deliver a political message, a message of support for Ntuane to the G-West crowd on the day.

Ntuane himself is a confessed Splash follower, having been a fan of their music from campus days.

It is not just the Splash Manyora, who are being wooed through the disco music ahead of the general elections; rumba- lovers have been catered for as well, with the pioneer of rhumba music in the country Alfredo Mos of Les Africa Sounds also billed to perform alongside Splash and Matshikos at the event. He would also drum up support for Ntuane, urging his legion of fans to cast votes for the BDP man.

It is the first time that the disco giants have been invited to perform at a political rally in Botswana. In the past, poets like Mzwakhe Mbuli have been here hosted by several parliamentary candidates of the BDP. However, Ntuane has ruled out the possibility of Splash continuing their show for the entire night; it will only go up to 8pm.
