Opinion
Musodza missed the point on Anglican issue

May I humbly take this opportunity to respond to an article in your popularly read publication Mmegi of Friday January 23 2009 written by a certain Dr Archford Musodza who claims to know Reverend Jacob PL Zachariah.

In the said article there are numerous fallacies and inconsistencies, but the author claims to set the record straight with wrong and irrelevant information towards the matter for discussions on the current situation of Anglican Church Botswana Diocese management under Bishop, Mwamba. The points for attention are as follows:

Rev. Jacob PL Zachariah has never claimed to be an ordained minister of the Anglican Church in Tlokweng in his writings, which are replied by Dr Archford Musodza. As for my membership of Tlokweng congregation, it is upon his shoulders to prove himself wrong with that. The writer in his article confines his argument on the process of ordaining of priests, which was not subject matter in Zachariah's writings except suspension of seven Batswana priests and the administration of the Anglican Church Botswana Diocese under Bishop Mwamba with its unique style. Dr Archford Musodza ordination has never and it will never be a matter of concern for Rev. Jacob PL Zachariah as you happen to perceive except maladministration of the Anglican Church Botswana Diocese led by Bishop Mwamba and his proteges.

If Dr Musodza thinks that theological calling comes from ordination he is wrong.

Theological calling comes from God not from man 1 Samuel 3:3-10. May I clarify how I acquired my title Reverend, which Dr Musodza doubts that is his own choice. I have studied theology with Kgolagano College of Theological Studies by Extension where I graduated for Diploma in Theology in April 1996. I am not a priest or pastor in any church and I have never claimed to be an ordained minister as Dr Archford Musodza implied in his article. Dr Musodza doubts and undermines my academic achievement which was recognized by an international accredited university UNISA as it had enrolled me as their student of 1997/98 student No. 32159730 to study Bachelor of Theology degree (BTH) with them.

This guy has read this information from my CV, which is in my file in Francistown. To me this is a violation of management ethics to publish someone's personal information in the media without his/her consent.  I would not doubt or undermine Dr Musodza's doctorate title as he does to me even though I don't know how and where he acquired it because he misled himself that only he can have academic achievements.

Yes, Dr Musodza I am political in this country and my politics do not meddle anywhere in the administration of the Anglican Church. I am just the member of the church in Tlokweng even though you decided to repudiate that in your article, which you tried to damage and defame my personal integrity. I am a politician by international standards which doesn't allow me to extend my political activity in any organisation. One wonders what provoked you to address my political  affiliation in the media. Anyway the prerogative is yours. Dr Archford Musodza,  with his doctorate title, which I believe is a professional degree, cannot reconcile his own statements as he indicated in his article that I am not a member of the Anglican Church in Tlokweng. That I joined the Anglican Church where I was licensed to serve as a Lay Minister, this is contradictory.

In conclusion, I want Dr Musodza to know and understand that my calling does not come from ordination or from the Bishop but from God Almighty so that I should serve his people not in the Anglican Church only. That I am a member of the Anglican Church worshipping in the parish of St Simon of Cyrene in Tlokweng. That I am not bitter or angry with anything concerning the state of not being ordained minister, more especially under the current state of affairs in the church. My writings had directed their messages towards the determent of addressing this chaotic situation in the media but internally.

That I have not acquired my title from ordination as he asserts in his article, but from my academic achievement as much as he has obtained his doctorate degree.

That I have full constitutional and legal right to be a politician in this country not in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia or anywhere in the world except in Botswana. That I have full responsibility and obligation to defend the laws of this country. For his information, Dr Archford Musodza should know that I am aspiring to be elected to join the team of legislators of this land during the forthcoming general elections.
