Bathusi Mogajane of BMC Boxing Club in Lobatse was on Tuesday night crowned the Boxer of the Year at the inaugural Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) awards held at the Yarona Country Lodge in Mogoditshane.

The 23-year-old Kanye born light flyweight boxer (48kg) beat national team compatriot, Mmoloki Nogeng (57kg) of Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) to win the coveted award. Mogajane's good performances at the beginning of last year saw him drafted into the national squad where he went on to represent the country at the Zone Six championships in Lesotho and won gold.

He represented the country at the 16th African Boxing Championships in Mauritius in July last year where he won a bronze medal.
He made history when he became the first local boxer to proceed to the second round of the World Amateur Boxing Championships held in Milan, Italy, last September before wrapping up a brilliant season with a gold medal at the Keone Maoka Mageu National Championship in November.
