Border post opening delayed

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The opening of the Mmamabaka border post in Bobirwa this month has been delayed. This is because the access road to the proposed site, from Mabolwe village to Mmamabaka, has four streams, making it difficult for lowbed trucks with portacamps load to cross.

According to a letter from Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) Acting Commissioner General Ken Morris, preparations to open the post are well under way and include the provision of portacamps for office and residential accommodation.
But whilst the portacamps have been procured and are ready for delivery, the access road to the site is a major hindrance.

Morris states in the letter that even though the road is accessible by other vehicles, it has sections that will need to be widened to allow easy movement by heavy vehicles.
"The situation has been exacerbated by the recent rains as they deepened crossing points at the four streams and in the meantime portacamps are stored temporarily at Semolale Police Station until the access road has been rehabilitated," the letter adds.
