Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, Seretse said that the London-based university, proposed to honour him with a Doctorate of Leadership and Influence three months ago, in recognition of his accomplishments.

"This honour comes after the university considered my achievements in institutions that I have worked for or have been involved with in the past," said Seretse.

Seretse was a deputy to the Bangwato regent, Sediegeng Kgamane until he resigned due to ill health.

His star began to rise in 1979 when he registered Boswe Construction as its managing director.

According to Seretse, the company started "from humble beginnings, winning the first tender over a stiff competition namely 'The Gaborone City Landmark', which is now permanently situated in front of the City Hall at the bottom of the eastern centre of the Main Mall".

Boswe Construction grew from strength to strength, under the direction of Seretse and spread to all the districts in the country. The company was engaged in constructing a number of projects, including the Roads Training Centre, Princess Marina Oral Dental unit, a number of clinics, primary and secondary schools and staff houses in the country.

"Although the operations of Boswe Construction throughout the country were a great contribution to the nation, I consider them to be the highest contribution towards myself since I have acquired great knowledge about the country," he said.

Before founding Boswe, other responsibilities that he undertook include being the building supervisor at Department of Building, building instructor and head of building unit at the former Botswana Polytechnic, building advisor at the Botswana Enterprise Development Unit (BEDU).

In 2004 he took up the position of deputy chief in the Ngwato Tribal Administration, which he relinquished due to poor health. During his tenure he spearheaded the revival of a number of the tribe's initiatives, such as the Bangwato Development Trust and Leupane Ranch.

Seretse is married to Rose, the new director of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC). They have six children.

Fellow Botswana recipients were Bishop Raphael Habibo, Reverend Samuel Makgaola and Reverend Roy Matlapeng. Other recipients included former Swaziland  cabinet minister Abednico Ntshangase and  Bishop LT Moyo of Zimbabwe
