BCP, BAM bargain over constituencies

Cooperation talks between the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and Botswana Alliance Movement (BAM) have been hit by a dispute over the allocation of constituencies. A major bone of contention is said to be BAM's desire to reserve the South East South constituency for its president Lepetu Ephraim Setshwaelo and Francistown for its secretary general Matlhomola Modise.

This has not gone down well with the BCP, which performed well in the two constituencies in the 2004 general elections. In South East South, the party got six councillors while in Francistown it emerged second to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
