Marriage After 20 Years' Break Up

This can only be described as a fairy tale. A Palapye woman has had to wait 20 years to marry a man of her dreams. It all started when Doctor Rankgwathi of Sefhophe ditched Maggie Goitseone Masogo immediately she got pregnant. Rankgwathi then got married to another woman.

After 20 years, Rankgwati divorced and went back to Masogo who gladly accepted him and they got married. When relating their story to the Monitor he said: I'm happy I won my love back and l thank my wife after so many years of suffering."

Rankgwathi added that coming back for Maggie "is a dream come true".

On the other hand, Maggie, the returnee girl-friend, told Monitor: "It was after I got pregnant that things fell apart. I just decided to accept what happened."

Masogo said at the time some of her friends advised her to stop the wedding but she thought more of the baby than him and didn't want this issue to affect the child.

To her surprise, after a year she learnt that Rankgwati wanted to come back. Although she did not want to engage in any discussion with him since he was a married man, it turned out that Rankgwathi was serious about coming back.

Masogo's relatives were not supportive of the idea of them reconciling, especially after what he did.

"My brother was very angry about it and advised me not to involve the family in any decision I would make relating to this matter," she recalled.

Once Rankwathi was divorced, the two decided to marry.

"I saw the seriousness that made me say 'yes I do'.

And while we were planning the wedding, he became sick and that was a big challenge for me and I didn't pull back. That was the time to forget about the past and build a happy family. We are now one."
