Victor Muyakwabo started reporting for Mmegi in 2010 but today the young man has bragging rights after scooping the Print Journalist of the Year. Muyakwabo told Mmegi that he was very honoured to have won the award noting that it was humbling as he was the youngest recipient among the winners. He explained that the award was a sign that he has a bright future ahead and credited the likes of Mmegi Editor, Tshireletso Motlogelwa, former Mmegi Political Reporter Ephraim Keoreng, Political Reporter, Bame Piet and former Mmegi Editor, Gideon Nkala for mentoring and making him the kind of reporter he is today.

Muyakwabo said he still vividly remembers, Motlogelwa's words when he once told him not to be afraid to explore his writing skills, listen and do what he is told.To this day Muyakwabo said the words still anchos through his work as he has now adopted the phrase, "when you sweep the streets sweep then in a way that when people look at them, they will then say that guy was one hell of a sweeper".

Muyakwabo being skeptical of winning said the competition was tough looking at the quality and experience of some of the reporters who were up for the award."The award is not going to change who I am and I am not going to be big headed, I am still going to work, learn about security in Botswana and crime in general to better my skills in reporting", stressed the overjoyed Muyakwabo.

He also credited the police and security agents for making his job easier by always being willing to help regardless of the time and said he wished other stakeholders could learn from them.Muyakwabo who has his eyes set on the Overall Journalist of the Year award as it is more exciting is hoping that come next year he will retain the same award or maybe get the one close to him, Investigative Journalist of the Year.

Baboki Kayawe scooped Best Education Reporter. This is her first award and it was the first time she contested because she thinks that the procedure is not good. According to Kayawe, it is better to monitor the performance of journalists rather than asking journalists to apply for the award.

Douglas Casper laid the foundation to Kayawe's reporting career, which dates back to the birth of UB Horizon. She says that she managed to get vacation jobs at Midweek Sun and Botswana Guardian whilst still a student at UB. It is at the Midweek Sun that Ernest Moloi who was the sub editor moulded and shaped Kayawe's career. After graduating in 2009, she became a freelancer at Mmegi starting in April and was employed in September.  She thanks Mmegi for giving her

the opportunity after graduating. In Mmegi, she did general reporting and encourages every amateur in the media industry to do the same before they specialize.

As a reporter in education, she feels that a lot still has to be in done because the education sector produces substandard graduates and the quality is going down despite the huge investment by the government in the Education Sector. Kayawe explained that she finds no reason for government to continue enrolling students who do not qualify for tertiary level just to improve enrolment, when after graduation they cannot help the country in any way. She also said for the betterment of education in Botswana there must be a collective effort rather than pointing of fingers.

Best Business Reporter, Mbongeni Mguni says every journalist's greatest dream is either to break a scoop, exclusive stories that one becomes known about and his ambition is to see more Batswana being financial literate.

Mguni not being a stranger to the MISA awards, having won in 2010, 2011 and 2012 said the award still means a lot to him, as it's a huge boost to his confidence in journalism and where he is in his career. "It means personal development and peers in media industry recognize what one is capable of", lamented Mguni.

Mguni's business reporting career dates back to 2002 while he was still in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe for the Chronicle's sister publication Sunday newspaper as an intern but joined Mmegi in 2010 where he has not looked back. Mguni who strives to be the best in what he does says he believes in business reporting that is actually relevant to individuals as more Batswana get indebted to money schemes such as Metshelo and other unregistered schemes which affect their personal lives hence the analytical stories he normally does on business issues.

Mmegi and The Monitor also won Best Newspaper Design Award, Best Photographer won by Kagiso Onkatswitse and Best Features scooped by former Political Reporter, Ephraim Keoreng. Mmegi Head of Design Lesang Maswabi welcomed the Best Newspaper Design. He said the award is testimony to his team's effort. "It feels great to be honoured for the creative input of my team and myself. We can only get more inspiration going forward". He gave credit to the editorial team and commercial department for their support. Maswabi says he views the introduction of new entrants into the market as rather a challenge that will drive him and his team to greater heights. "We welcome new entrants since they offer variety and needed competition. We are up for the challenge," he added, saying that the publication is looking to enhanced its design with the view to engaging with new conditions in the market.
