FNB head of marketing and communications Bomolemo Selaledi says the bank took this highly symbolic milestone to reflect on challenges and achievements over the period. She lauded their customers for their support over the years at a media day meeting held at Gaborone Sun last Thursday.

"We simply want to recognise and celebrate our collective achievements as well as plot the way forward together. A number of exciting activities are in the pipeline and are scheduled to roll out well into 2013, both within and outside the bank," she announced.

She said the activities would be geared towards thanking customers, stakeholders as well as FNB staff for helping to build the country's largest bank by assets.  Selaledi said it is through the people's diversity of efforts as well as their continued support that the brand can build upon its helpful character and maintain its innovative edge.

"Over 21 years of existence in Botswana, FNB has built a solid track of being the first to market with all significant technologies and products that drive Botswana's modern financial services environment," Selaledi noted, citing the

"In 2004, FNB customers were getting 24-hour access to their accounts through online banking, a secure internet based service. By 2006, the convenience of 24-hour banking had been extended to FNB customers' cellphones and today more than 300,000 people are using our cellphone banking service to pay bills, buy airtime, transfer funds and enjoy countless other banking services anywhere anytime," she said.

She added that going forward they want to mobilise the majority of Batswana to become part of the bank's success story and promised big things in the future. As part of the celebrations, the bank visited the Botswana Retired Nurses Society (BORNUS) and the Botswana Society for The Deaf in Ramotswa. The institutions have enjoyed funding by the FNB Foundation.

Selaledi revealed that the foundation has built a three classroom and toilet block for hearing impaired children at a cost of more than P1 million. At BORNUS, the foundation has built a classroom block, fenced the compound area and planted five trees.
