He said that the couple were awoken by a mob of six men, four of whom were already inside the house, while two kept vigil outside.
He said that the mobsters spoke both Setswana and Ndebele languages.
The men, who were brandishing knives, started by dragging the 33-year-old woman and started assaulting her, inflicting serious injuries on her.
The mob then proceeded to beat up her 51-year-old husband, who suffered a broken leg and one of the fingers on the left hand. Madisa said the mob stole P200 and a cell phone.
He said the couple are self-employed, adding that the money snatched from them was a day's proceeds from their fat-cake sales.
The mob is said to have forced the door open while the couple were still sleeping.
No one has been arrested in connection with the attack yet.
