BMD postpones congress

The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) has postponed its inaugural congress to April 29 because some constituencies have sought more time to elect delegates.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Gaborone, BMD interim deputy chairman, Botsalo Ntuane said of the 57 constituencies, only 35 have elected delegates. Though this makes a quorum for the congress to go ahead from tomorrow as earlier scheduled, the interim leadership took the view that as a new and dynamic movement with a presence and support in every constituency in Botswana, the other 22 constituencies should be allowed time to undertake the selection of delegates. This was meant to ensure a representative congress drawing delegates from across the country, said Ntuane. He stated that the party has realised that more time is needed for aspirants for elective positions to campaign.  He urged every BMD member who wishes to serve the movement in any position to proceed with campaigns. He told aspirants to conduct their campaigns with humility and respect and to show exemplary decorum in the spirit of Bokaulengwe. "The new date for the inaugural congress has been set for April 29 to May 2, 2011 in Gaborone," he said.

Meanwhile Kabo Morwaeng, who is responsible for the mobilisation of the party structures, has once again refused to say if he will contest the BMD elections. Even Ntuane and BMD leader Gomolemo Motswaledi would not say whether they were standing or not. "We have been busy building structures to concern ourselves with making announcements to say I, Morwaeng am standing for such and such position. I believe the party structures are more important and the main thing, especially in a new party like the BMD," he said.

Congratulations Anicia Gaothuse!

The contest had 10 beautiful young girls as finalists and unfortunately only one could wear the crown. The judges picked Anicia Gaothuse. To all those who feel their contestant should have won ahead of Anicia for whatever reason, hardly; the judges found Anicia to be the best among the best, so desist from disrespecting our newly crowned queen on social media or anywhere else, for that matter! Each of the 10 beautiful young women had supporters...
