GCC To Settle Waste Collection Problem By July

Council mayor Veronica Lesole, said in a media briefing on Friday that dirt in the city and surrounding areas will be cleared by July.

She said they are expecting to be allocated resources to speed up the process.  "Ministry of Local Government has allocated GCC P12m for four refuse compactors, tipper trucks and two front end loaders and delivery of the vehicles and equipment is expected in July 2010," she said.

The council has also been provided with P33m for the 2010/2011 financial year, while P3m has also been provided for outsourcing tenders.
In another strategy to end the problem, the council has negotiated with Kweneng council to extend operation hours for Gamodubu landfill from 6pm to 10pm so that waste collected in the evening can be disposed of as well as to increase the number of trips to the landfill.
